A View from Abroad

Summer in Paris, August in SF

Summer in France is kind of like summer break in the US -- a lot of the time, it's "See you in September!"  Not that us French tech types are taking holidays (we're not) -- we're just making the most of the down time here in France to handle business abroad.  For example, I'm headed to Silicon Valley with Mihai Crasneanu of glowria Wikipedia:  glowria for a week in August for his media tour and speaking spot at Digital Hollywood Building Blocks Conference in San Jose August 15th-17th.  Another cool client -- yet to be formally annouced -- might be joining us.  Watch this space.

 

The French Get Connected

Many of you have heard my discourse on why the French were so late to the Internet game - Minitel - but when they finally got connected, they certainly started to make up for lost time.  From 1997 to 2006, the number of French households connected to the Internet multiplied by 100.  In the first trimester of 2006, 9,911,000 households were connected to the Internet, versus 95,000 in the last trimester of 1996 VNUnet (French).  

True, we (yes, I did say "we" -- I have no idea exactly who to identify with anymore, forgive me) are still behind the Germans & the Brits in terms of percentage households connected, but at least the French started out of the gate early with regards to the blogosphere.  More on this another time.
